Our Hot Dates Reviews....

The month of January: Singapore Flyer

Cost of tix:
Adult $29.50
Senior Citizen: $23.60
Child: $20.65

We wanted to make it memorable and thought of catching the sun rise, unfortunately they only open at 8.30am. So we decided to do it in the evening instead. A short 30mins ride, I brought my DSLR that day, still learning to play with it, definitely not every good with it.

That weekend, there was a Chingay rehearsal, so the streets were pretty colorful from the costumes the performers were wearing. So it kinda brighten up the area too. The only thing bad was the weather, it was awfully cloudy that day, and the skies were turning dark :(

From the Singapore Flyer you would be able to view the East Coast of Singapore, occasionally you would see planes entering and landing or jetting off. Looking outwards at the sea you would see PUB's Marina Barrage. And a plot of land under massive construction for a man-made park. When the Flyer rotates facing the west...you would be greeted with Marina Bay Sands The hype and the rest of Singapore's sky line, the old CBD area.

I must say this...

Singapore has changed drastically over the past few years, especially the whole Marina Bay. Marina Bay used to be a big open area where usually families would head there to fly kites(I remember doing that a few times with my siblings and father) and they are also famous for their cheap $10-$15 BBQ Steamboat buffets. But they are under massive constructions, in the future there would be a man-made built park and the new Marina Bay financial district. So with the old big open spaces where my generation of peeps used to fly kites being cordon off, there is always an alternative plan introduced for kite flying activities; thats at the Marina Barrage. And then we have one of the 2 Casinos in Singapore; Marina Bay Sands. I have been to Las Vegas before, all the hotels along the main strip are amazing. The amount of effort pumped into designing the hotels and each hotel has it's own theme, is amazing. Looking at the Marina Bay Sands, it feels like a small tiny fraction of the Strip. But it is definitely classy.

30 mins is really short and I do regret being busy with the camera and trying to take pictures, figuring out how to use the camera and stuffs. But I do feel now is a pretty good time to see how beautiful and astonishing Singapore looks like right now as compared to the past. We have grown and prosper so much over the years. And I am glad to be able to be part of this era.

I will definitely take the Flyer again, but not so soon, maybe in a few years time when the whole Marina Bay area has been fully constructed. Hopefully it wouldn't be so congested then! (:

It was definitely a good start to our monthly hot date. The quality time we get to spend together in the capsule and walking around the area, priceless. (:

Universal Studios is now an island away. Finally we have a theme park to call our own. We went on a weekday Friday and arrived there just after they opened their gates. There were quite a lot of visitors entering then many were foreigners and occasionally you would see some local peeps like us. Well the boyfriend saw a few of his colleagues, some with family others with friends. Once you enter USS, you feel like you are in a different land.
It wasn't entirely new to us, as we have been there earlier last year in the evening to check the place out for a mere $2 (that was back then, I think they increased the price to $5 now). We were definitely excited to take the rides and we grabbed a map and looked out for all those rides that requires children to reach a certain height limit. The taller the height limit, the scarier the ride ;)

I must say, as compared to the the original Universal Studios in Hollywood, LA, this place isn't as as vibrant as the one back in LA. In LA there are quite a number of mascots walking around and there are Mascot dancing around. Music is being played everywhere too! The vibe is different too. However thankfully the queue for the rides were pretty short, and thank goodness the queuing areas are mostly air conditioned. The weather that day was pretty hot, so the air con helps to cool you down while in queue.

For some of the rides, you are not allowed to carry your belongings with you. Lockers are provided for free for some of them. They loan you the lockers for a period of time, after which you would have to pay per hour, if I'm not wrong.

We were expecting the Battlestar Galactica to be closed as he read that it was only opening the week after. But we were in for a treat, they were having some technical rehearsal so we were fortunate to be able to scare ourselves on the rides. I would say it's awesome, but would't want to spoil the experience. You have to go there to experience it yourself! (:

With the pretty short queues, we manged to cover most of the major rides by 3pm. It was a waste that we didn't catch all the tiny bits of USS as he wasn't feeling too well.

But I must say, if you have been to the original Universal Studios in LA and Movie World in Brisbane, you would think that USS is very much like Movie World and it still lacks the vibrancy like the one in LA. The one in LA is really a bench mark, so don't expect too much if you have been there before. Otherwise, I am sure you would enjoy yourself there! ;)

p.s remember to walk with your gf when you enter the Revenge of the Mummy attraction. Because I walked alone, and I was ALL ALONE and damn freaked out as the whole area was dim and dark plus the eerie music, and I can't see very well in the dark so I was scared something would pop out and scare me. I have a weak heart, hehe.

Hotel Michaels is one of the hotels within RWS. It's away from the Casino but pretty near the shopping area. I didn't really had the time to explore the hotel. So I can only write about the room. We stayed on the 10th floor, the highest is the 11th floor. The room is decent, size is a typical king size bed hotel room. The interior furnishing makes you feel like you are in a resort. The thing we felt weird and funny was the number of cupboards they provided, they are small and built in at 2 corners of the room. The fridge do not contain any drinks, but there were 4 bottles of complimentary bottles. Oh and the hair dryer was hidden in the table. Their design is just funny. But I love their bathroom. The shower uses both the normal shower head and rain shower. For girls who wouldn't want to get their hair wet, can opt to use the normal shower head. But if you want a full body shower, use the rain shower. Loved it! (: The toothbrush, sewing kit, etc... were named in a cute fashion too. And they even provide a stool for young kids to stand on. How sweet!

However I can hear music and cheering from our room. But overall my stay at Hotel Michaels was pleasant

So these are the reviews for Jan and Feb.

I would do a monthly one from March onwards.

Have a happy weekend my secret readers!

Good night!

xoxo
Steph
