Secret May Hot Date

I have mentioned this earlier, that I would be featuring 2 places for the month of May.

May is special, because his birthday falls in May. For the past 2 years I have either been busy or was not around to celebrate his birthday. This year's birthday is extra special too, because he hits the big "3", while I'm still living in the "twenties".

The place I selected for dinner is a little unusual as compared to the normal fine dining restaurants most couples may choose.

Venue: Min Jiang @ One North

Min Jiang is also located at Good Wood Park Hotel, but the one at One North gives it an extra twist by fusing Chinese dining with fine dining.
The location is set in an old colonial house and the interior was decorated with old Chinese style furniture, this unique combination makes the place more cosy.

I guess I have mentioned enough of the place, lets focus on the food. That was what we were there for! (:

We ordered the UOB set menu.

The appetizer dish was....

厨师精选拼
芝麻脆鳝, 黑鱼子上汤小龙包,奶香虾伴时果
Chef’s Appetizer Platter
Crispy Sesame Eel
, Steamed Xiao Long Bao with fish roe,
Deep Fried Prawn with Crispy Milk

I really like the crispy Sesame Eel, it's so crispy you think it's some kind of cracker. The deep fried prawn is something to look out for too. (:

The 2nd dish is a must have dish for my bf. It's his favorite..

鹅肝云吞炖中鲍翅
Double Boiled Superior Shark’s Fin with Foie Gras Ravioli

I'm not a fan of Foie Gras Ravioli, but in this Shark's Fin soup, it was just nice.

The 3rd dish...
Pekking Duck

This is optional, but Min Jiang is famous for their Pekking Duck, so how can I do without it.
You need to pre-order before hand.

They come in 2 different types of ingredients for the wrap.

The 4th course...

香芒梅酱卢鱼扒或洋葱美国黑猪扒
Pan-fried Fillet of Fish with Plum Sauce and Mango
Pan-Fried US Kurobuta Pork with Malted Onion

Well we felt that this 2 dishes were forgettable, maybe cuz we were a lil too full then...

The 5th course...

翡翠蟹肉什菇豆腐
Homemade Assorted Tofu with
Crabmeat and Mushroom

This dish was exceptionally nice, don't judge it by the looks of it.
It may look green and dull, but it's actually yummy!

the 6th course...

Fried pekking duck with assorted garnish.

The 7th course....

XO 酱带子脆面
Crispy Noodles with Fresh Scallop in XO Sauce

The 8th course...

His mini birthday cakes from the Line, Shangri La Hotel Singapore.
I had to make an extra trip there in the afternoon to get these cakes.

The 9th and last course...

Chilled Tientsin Pear and Fritillary Bulbs with Chrysanthemum Jelly
accompanied with Durian Glutinous Ball

Min Jiang Legendary Durian Pudding accompanied with Mango Spring Roll

The Durian Pudding was really legendary, it's very smooth and the taste is simply so rich you feel like you are eating a durian itself.
The Chilled Tientsin Pear and Fritillary Bulbs with Chrysanthemum Jelly was a good complement for the durian pudding, it's "liang" so it helps to quench the heatiness from the durian.

By the end of the meal, we were really full!

We would definitely come back, but this time, we shall not order a set menu. It's simply too much for us to handle.

But overall we like this place (:

So if you are looking for something different and would want to avoid having steak, fish and chips, sushi, you can try this out.

Hope you enjoyed drooling over the pictures. :D

xoxo
Steph
